I am going to an illustration conference in England in a few a weeks (yay!), it's called the Global Art Gathering put on by Lilla Rogers and her crew. Ahead of the event we were asked to create a tea towel representing Englishness... Whatever that means to you. I have not yet had the pleasure of visiting the UK so I relied heavily on stereotypical American ideas of England. I was going for big overarching themes. I wanted to represent tea, famous landmarks, music, wars (is that weird?), literature, the monarchy, English gardens, film/tv, food and rainy London. We were asked not to use the Union Jack since that covers Great Britain as a whole but to me (the American girl who has never been to the UK) the Union Jack is the symbol of England... So I snuck it in the margins ;) But I kept the images red and white to align with the English flag. Man alive, I should have been a diplomat.
I made an inspiration board which is also the basic layout of the final tea towel. Click on the links listed below for a glimpse inside my noodle... If you dare... Mwah ha hahaaah!! JK It's like looking into the mind of a 12 year old girl circa 1987. Perhaps not the most exciting, but maybe nostalgic for 40 year olds ;)
