I was introduced to the Ruth B song, "Lost Boy" about two weeks ago and it has been on repeat in my head ever since. It was the perfect thing to listen to while I finished up this project.
"Peter Pan, Tinker Bell, Wendy Darling,
Even Captain Hook—
You are my perfect story book
Neverland, I love you so,
You are now my home sweet home
Forever a lost boy at last"
I rounded out this collection with some ceramics and wood pieces. I looked to the water that surrounds Neverland to find the inspiration for the ceramic pieces. The bowl has directions to Neverland written inside, in case you have forgotten... Second star to the right and straight on 'til morning. Plus, I couldn't resist a porcelain paper boat night light.
Wendy Darling has a pet wolf in Neverland. When she comes back to the island, he finds her and they run into each other's arms and after that he remains by her side. I liked the idea of having her wolf as a nightstand to be a child's constant companion while they sleep.
All in all I really loved designing this collection, I'd definitely like to do more :)
And that's all, folks!
Here we have the glass component to the collection. The directions to Neverland are "Second star to the right and straight on 'til morning". I love the idea of the large dual star hanging stained glass night light. I think they'd be beautiful during the day but have a soft green glow at night that points the way to Neverland.
The lampshade refers to a story in one of the Peter Pan books where J.M. Barrie describes human parents writing descriptions of their desired children on folded paper boats or thrush's nests and sending them down the river. In response the corresponding birds fly back over the river to the parents-to-be and transform into human children.
I have a jadeite crocodile planter because I think it's important for kids to learn how to nurture plants. The acorn string lights are a nod to the thimble/acorn exchange between Wendy and Peter, the fireflies are just cute.
I headed into the jungle for the fabric part of this collection. Neverland is full of beasts! Lions, tiger, bears and wolves populate the island and of course there's that pesky crocodile that's always following Captain Hook looking for his next meal. We have Tiger Lily's teepee covered in it's own style of night time jungle camouflage. I love a garland and the felt-leaf vine garlands add an air of adventure. Then there's the drum pouf. Either for drumming or sitting.
Whatever floats your boat. Or canoe or whatever.
I have two elementary school aged kids. A boy and a girl. They share a room. It kind of sucks. I'm definitely not a matchy-matchy theme girl but I do like things to go together. That doesn't really happen in their room. I'm creating a home decor line to address these problems. I realize that I just said that I'm not crazy for themes but in this case I need a unifying idea. I'm in love with J.M. Barrie's Peter Pan books. There's a lot going on them. You'll find pirates, mermaids, Indians, fairies, beasts, magic, mischief and grand adventures. There's a little something for everyone.
Now, let's see if I can pull this off!
