I didn't start this blog until after I finished the last piece for Lilla Rogers' Assignment Bootcamp, so I'll post a backwards timeline :) Our fourth assignment was to create a nautical piece of wall art using a ship in a bottle. I was super excited about this, you see, I love love love ships in bottles! I feel my style lends itself to children's art best, so I stuck with that.
I wanted a happy, magical viking ship (those striped sails get me every time!) the only logical masthead I could image was a unicorn. The jaunty French seagull, with his bicorn hat, striped shirt and cheery orange scarf, was begging for a ride. He made his way onto the ship too.
It has always amazed me that ancient sailors were able to utilize the stars and constellations for their nautical cartography. A night sky filled with stars and constellations seemed to be the only choice for our sailor who, I'm sure, is sailing to his happy place.
